Well, our washing machine bit the dust on Tuesday. It stopped
spinning and the diagnosis was a bad part that is unavailable in
Hungary. It was the owner of our house’s and they purchased it in New
Zealand so there wasn’t much chance of fixing it here.
We set out on Thursday to find a replacement. What we found out was
that Euro washers are much better than US washers. They do so many
things that US washers don’t do. The average cycle is 1 ½ to 2 hours.
The clothes don’t sit in the water, but the washer moves the water
over and across the clothes. The washer heats the water itself and
can get the water as hot as 200 degrees. Also, the spin cycle runs up
to 1200 RPMs and therefore gets the clothes almost dry before going to
the dryer. The down side is that they are smaller than US washers.
We found one after visiting several places and got it home only to
realize that it is smaller than we expected. Also, every time it
starts to heat the water, it blows the circuit breaker in the room. I
guess we are going to have to get an electrician to add a circuit.
What fun!!!
I hope we will get caught up on laundry. It seems that pile will never end.
