Well, the Aggies ran out of gas in the 2nd of half of last night’s showdown with Texas, but I’m not too disappointed with our effort against the #5 team in the nation on the road.
It did create a couple of bizarre plays. With 30 seconds to go in the half, I had pretty much given Texas a 13-6 lead since they were 2nd and goal at the 1. Then, their QB fumbled and the Aggies rumbled 98 yards for a TD. Quite a turn of events.
Then, the most bizarre was after Texas blocked an A&M punt and recovered it in the end zone. The snap for the extra point was bobbled and the kicker went ahead and blasted it straight into the line. It was recovered by an A&M player who subsequently fumbled it. After it bounced around, it was recovered by the Aggies in the end zone. Crazy as it sounds, it was ruled a “safety” and since it was on an extra point, it was only worth 1 point. I think this rule is NUTS!!!! It didn’t matter in the game, but how can you blast a kick into the line and still get the point.
Now it is the waiting game to see what bowl game we get. It looks like the Holiday Bowl which would be fine with me!
