Super Monday?!@#$%
Here in Budapest, Super Sunday isn’t very Super. There is no 5 hour pre-game show leading up to the game (I never really watched it, but it was nice to have it on the room). There are no parties. The game doesn’t even start until after midnight. Therefore, Super Monday. I actually can get the game on the Hungarian ESPN (I was always skeptical when they said that the game was broadcast in over 200 countries), but the commentary is in Hungarian and there are no commercials. They only have commercials between quarters and then they are just ads for other sporting events (they need to learn something about marketing over here).
The folks at our office have figured it out, though. Our local American Club gets the game on the Armed Forces Network and we have it taped. Then, we have a big party at the office on Monday night. Last year, we had 75 to 100 people and it was a lot of fun!!! The hardest part is trying not to find out the score. I typically just don’t check email or surf the net at all if I can avoid it. So don’t send me email about the game until Monday night!!!
As far as the commericals, last year my dad taped the game and mailed it to us. We then proceded to sit around as a family and fast-forward through the game to watch the commericals. Hopefully, he will do it again.
We used to have so much fun hosting Super Bowl parties in the US so I definitely miss that, but this is a pretty good trade off. It could be worse.
What a pain!!
Back pain is such a pain. I’ve basically been out of commission for over a week now. I took it easy last week and weekend and thought I was getting better so I went to work yesterday. BIG MISTAKE! After sitting much of the day, I was back to where I started. So, I’m back on the couch. Thankfully, Jerry & I were able to do some planning in my living room today. I don’t think my wife or I can make it like this much longer.
Vonette Bright
One of the neat things about our recent Staff Conference was getting to meet Vonette Bright, who is the wife of Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. My Mom volunteers in her office in Orlando and has gotten to know her over the past few years.
She spent the entire week with us at the conference and she said that she loved being with our national staff. She and Bill have always had a heart for reaching Eastern Europe and especially Russia so I think it was a big encouragement to her to see how much the Lord had done in the past 20 years.
