Hungarian Pre-School is called Ovoda. Kirby Ann started again on September 1st. She loves her class and is even making some friends. She will still tell you that she doesn’t like it because they speak Hungarian. If you ask if she likes her teachers, friends, the food, playing, or anything else, she says that she loves it!!! We are hoping that she will start to speak Hungarian soon.

Big Americans Pizza

This cracked me up. I went to buy some frozen pizzas for an easy dinner last week and I found this.

BIG AMERICANS Pizza. Not Big America, or just American, but Big Americans. I guess it is only eaten by HUGE Americans. It is also “Texas” flavor. What is that? The sausage did have a spicy flavor, but that doesn’t make it Texas flavor. Looks like Pepperoni to me.

Also, as I highlighted, it is “Made in Europe.” No big surprise here. I still laugh outloud when I think about it.

First European Football Match

Kiev Soccer Match

Ever since I moved to Budapest, I’ve wanted to attend a soccer or “football” match. Since I can’t follow American sports as well over here, I’ve tried to learn soccer as best as I can watching in Hungarian. I’ve never made it to a game mostly due to cultural challenges. I usually find out when the games are after they are over and I have no idea how to buy tickets or what I should do when I get ot the game.

While in Kiev, Brian told us that he was taking his family to the Ukraine-Turkey World Cup Qualifying match. I asked him if there was still tickets available and sure enough, there were. We went to the stadium at lunch and bought great seats right at midfield.

It was a great experience. The crowd was incredibly enthusiastic. Ukraine didn’t need to win the game, but they played with tons of energy. They ended up losing 1-0, but it was a great time. Maybe, this will get me over the hump and I can go to a match here in Budapest sometime.

Great Week in Kiev

Kiev Team

Jerry & I spent this past week in Kiev Ukraine planning a Russian Internet Ministry Strategy. It was a wonderful time. Ultimately, we formed this team and agreed to move forward. The initial step is to create a straightforward evangelistic site in Russian, market it heavily, and build a strong team to follow-up the contacts.

I think we will look back on this week as the start of something big!

Off to Kiev

Jerry & I leave for Kiev in the morning to meet with Brian, Andrey and Alexei about how we can create a ministry on the Internet that will reach Russian speakers all over the world. We have been praying and waiting for this trip for two years as it has been in on our hearts and minds ever since we moved here to Budapest. Please pray for us Tuesday and Wednesday that we will follow the Lord where He is leading us!!

Also, pray for Valerie & the kids while I’m gone. Valerie is going to be the substitute 5th grade teacher at our school for the next two weeks. The real teacher is having to return to the states because of a death in his family. Valerie is excited because she loves to teach and she really has the sense that this is what God wants her to do. On the other hand, this doesn’t come at a great time because it is the first of the school year and I’m going to be out of town.

God’s grace is sufficent. Pray that we will trust Him and rejoice in the trials that we encounter along the way.

It’s starting

Today is the first weekend of college football and my third year of being nowhere near it. I’m adjusting, but I still miss it. I’m hoping to watch a few games on ESPN GamePlan streaming over the Internet, but it is pretty pricey, so I don’t think I’ll do that too often.

Tonight is the big showdown between the Aggies & Clemson. With the Aggies, the expectations couldn’t be higher. We totally overachieved last year and every Aggie fan expects more this year. We got killed by a good team in Utah on the road last year. We’ll see how Death Valley treats us tonight. From what I hear, there will be a decent number of Aggies in the stands. A convincing win would certainly send expectations through the roof.

Gig ‘Em!!!
