Seahawks give it away!

[image:287:c]Well, we made it all night. In a crowd of guys, I had no trouble staying awake. I finally hit the pillow at around 4:30am and the alarm went off at 6:15am. YAAAWWWWNNNN. It’s just after 9am and my meeting starts shortly. I’m doing better than I expected. After a few more cups of coffee, I’ll be fine.

As far as the game, the Seahawks gave this one away. I don’t think there is anyway that you can say the Steelers won (except the final scoreboard). They were pretty much outplayed in every category except crossing the end zone (the important category).

It was painful to see the Seahawks mistakes. Touchdowns called back on penalties, a ton of dropped passes, more penalties, giving a up 75 yard run, etc . . .

I didn’t believe the pregame hype that the Steelers were that much better and the game proved that. They weren’t that much better, but the Seahawks decided that they didn’t want this one very bad.

Also, it was a down year for commericals. Hardly any memorable ones as I think about it this morning.

Super Bowl is Super Late!

Tonight’s the big game and here in Budapest hardly anyone has a clue about it. Everything is just business as usual. No displays at the grocery store. No TV Ads. No t-shirts. Nothing.

Yet, a group of Americans is very aware of it. We are gathering here at my house to watch it LIVE. Being that we are 6 hours ahead of Eastern time that means the kickoff is about 12:20am. Ouch! We are doing it for the fun, for the cultural experience, and just to feel like Americans for one evening. I stayed up and watched it last year and in the pivotal 4th quarter (about 3:00am), I fell asleep. When I woke up, there was about 1 minute to go in the game and it was pretty much over. Hopefully, tonight I can make it through. We’ll see.

I have a 9:30am meeting tomorrow that I won’t be much good for. I’m going to try to sleep in on Tuesday and catch up on things.

As far as the game, I don’t really care. If I have to pick, I’ll go with the Seahawks because they are the underdog and they’ve never been there. Also, the Steelers beat up my Cowboys back in the 70s and I haven’t forgotten.

Cartoon Rage

Jerry blogged about how the Muslim world is so upset about a cartoon portraying Mohammad in a Danish newspaper. They believe that creating images of Mohammad will lead to idolatry, so therefore you shouldn’t do it. Jerry expressed dismay with how the Muslim world governments are responding to the crisis and expecting western governments to control their press. Crazy.

What struck me in this whole thing is how it relates to the Christian world. We, as Christians, are often dismayed and saddened with the lack of morality in the world. The thing that surprises me is how so many Christians think that non-Christians should behave as Christians. They are offended and outraged when a movie that opposes Christian values does well at the box office. They don’t understand when laws protecting abortion are the law of the land. Why does this surprise us? Why would we expect people outside of our faith to act as if they were in it.

When we do this, we are acting just like the Muslims in this story. They are expecting non-muslims to act muslim. This seems utterly ridiculous to us. Are we more attracted to the muslim faith because of this??? No! I think the same is true of non-Christians. They aren’t attracted to Christianity because of our strong public stands on morality. They are attracted because of the love and grace of Christ. It seems like we should spend more time loving our neighbor rather than making sure everyone understands what we think is right and wrong.

As I watched the images of Palestinians on CNN, with machine guns in hand, lashing out against the west, I couldn’t help but think this is what non-Christians see when they see Christians lashing out against movies, tv or the government.

Changing Lightbulbs

How many back surgery patients does it take to change a lightbulb?

Only one if it has been 8 weeks. Last Saturday, I changed light bulbs around the house in what was truly a landmark event. I finally did something to contribute to the household. I have done a little dish cleaning, picking things up around the house, etc . . . , but this was finally some real dad work. I might change a few more this weekend :)

I’ve also been walking and since it is Winter, I go to Auchan which is one of our huge Super-Wal-Mart-like stores. If I just walk the hallway in front of cash registers, I estimate that it is more than 1/4 of a mile and less than a 1/2 of a mile one way. I took almost 3 laps yesterday so that is probably around 1 1/2 miles or so. WOW!! That place is huge.
