Media: STOP COMPLAINING!!!
As many of you, I've been following the aftermath of the tsunami in SE asia. It is a terrible tragedy that is overwhelming in its scope. I've followed the media reports as they tell of heroic rescues and stories of grief and sorrow.
What I'm frustrating about is their criticism of the relief efforts. It seems like everytime someone talks about the relief efforts, they gripe and complain about how slow they are. Who said they are slow? What would have been fast enough? Should they have been their 5 minutes later? How about 5 hours? When faced with huge areas that have no accessible roads, no power, no communications, no runways, how were they supposed to get their any sooner? Why can't they assume that government and non-government organziations are doing everything they can in responding to a disaster so big that no one could have been ready for it? Yes, it is sad to see the challenges that survivors are facing against disease, starvation, etc . . . but it doesn't mean that someone was negligent.
Next time, we'll ask CNN to organize the relief efforts because clearly they could have done better.
