New Friend and Budapest Rookie
I wanted to let you know about another Budapest blogger and our friend Jessie. She moved to Budapest with Exxon/Mobil this past summer. We are still unsure how, but she was given our name before she moved here and Valerie began swapping emails with her. She told us the name of the guy who gave her our name and we don't know the guy. Weird. We thought it was someone that I used to work with at Exxon, but it wasn't. God brought us together.
It has been fun to see her experience this new culture. It reminds us of how far we have come in only 2 years. Valerie has been showing her the ropes at the grocery stores (is it sour cream, yogurt, or cream cheese?) and just having fun hanging out. We celebrated Jessie's birthday last Sunday at our house and had a great time hanging out.
Stop by Jessie's blog for more insights into life in Budapest and tell her that I sent you!!! You can also read more about her birthday celebration.

Hey, that's exciting about Jessie! She is a cutie- even more so since she thinks you all are so great. So glad you are getting to encourage and help her.
TOM!!! Unless you have another friend 'Jesse' you've spelled my name wrong on the link!!!! ;) It's cool... in this 27 years... I've become used to this. heehe - j/k. I have to say that I am the MOST thankful that God brought us together - you guys are the BEST!!! I really could not have even asked for better!
Yes, that was another friend. Small world, huh. I deleted the link to the other friend and put a link to your site! :)
This is random, but.....Speaking of grocery stores, do you have any idea where to get baking soda in Budapest??
I have looked all over and all they have is baking powder (sutopor).
Interesting to get a comment from Val. My wife's name is Valerie and I was wondering why she was asking this question on my blog. Welcome to Budapest, Val.
Yes, you can get Baking Soda. It doesn't come in boxes like Arm & Hammer. It comes in small envelope or pouch like an envelope of yeast in the US. It is called szódabikarbóna (like bicarbonate of soda).
Good job on finding the Baking Powder. It took us a while to find these two mostly because of the envelopes. My tiny neighborhood ABC grocery store has Baking Soda so I'm sure you will be able to find it.
